Metro Manila, Philippines – A special voter registration may be held in Northern Luzon areas as they have been battered by Typhoon Julian, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Monday, Sept. 30.
The deadline for voter registration is Sept. 30.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia said the discretion of a special registration is left to local Comelec officers.
As of posting time, only Batanes has declared a postponement of voter registration.
[Translation: That is just right. Let us prioritize the life and safety of our residents and Comelec personnel.]
[Translation: We respect their decision, and we leave it to them when the continuation of the last day of registration is in their area.]
Meanwhile, the certificate of candidacy (COC) filing is set for Oct. 1 to 8.
Garcia said areas that will continue to experience bad weather may reschedule the filing.
“More or less, walong araw ‘yan. So, dapat sa buong bansa, walong araw ‘yun,” he said.
[Translation: More or less, the filing is eight days. So, the entire country should have eight days.]
Garcia said it’s all systems go for the commission when it comes to COC filing.
