Metro Manila, Philippines – The Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO), the Philippine Representative Office in Taiwan, will have a change in its chairmanship on Monday, Sept. 30.
The MECO Board will hold a meeting on Monday to act on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s nomination of former Presidential Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil as member and new chairperson.
Garafil will replace Silvestre Bello III.
Filipino community organizations in Taiwan praised Bello for his services.
“His work involved addressing the needs and concerns of Filipinos living and working in Taiwan, ensuring their rights are protected and promoting their welfare. Such efforts not only enhance the quality of life for individuals but also strengthen the cultural and social bonds between the two nations,” the Federation of Filipino Communities in Taiwan said.
“Napakadali na pong makipag-ugnayan sa MECO. Amin pong naranasan Ang madali, maayos, mabilis at kumpletong serbisyo ng kanyang opisina,” said the Filipino Community Association in Central Taiwan.

“His leadership has not only driven positive change but has also inspired others to strive to do more kind deeds for our fellow Filipino compatriots,” the Filipino Community in Southern Taiwan said.
Meanwhile, former broadcaster Cesar Chavez has been appointed by Marcos to replace Garafil.
