Metro Manila, Philippines — Is Tab Baldwin’s time with the Ateneo Blue Eagles coming to an end after next season?
If the four-time UAAP champion coach would have it his way, he wants to continue the program that he began in Katipunan.
“That certainly isn’t my plan. I’ve got another year on my contract. This is my home now. My love affair with Ateneo just grows every year. I certainly don’t want it to end.” the 66-year-old mentor told NewsWatch Plus in an exclusive interview.
This comes after a report by New Zealand-based publication The Post said he was among the contenders for its country’s head coaching job.
One thing’s clear for Baldwin, he said he is enjoying the chance given to him by Ateneo.
“There’s two kinds of coaches, one’s waiting to get hired and one’s waiting to be fired. You never worry about the future as a coach. If you do, you’re probably not gonna have a very good one. I’m just going to try to do my job everyday and love the opportunities and blessings I have in my life.” he said.
With a young core going into UAAP Season 87, Baldwin said the Blue Eagles will experience growing pains in the first round.
“We got a lot of young, new players. With that comes a lot of question marks so we’ll see in the early games how they shape up and how they adjust.”
Ateneo will open its campaign against University of the Philippines on Sept. 7 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
