Metro Manila, Philippines — Gilas Pilipinas moved up four spots to No. 34 in the latest world rankings for men released by FIBA on its website.

The rise of Gilas was due to its impressive campaign in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Riga, Latvia where it reached the semifinals.

Gilas’ Olympic ended when it fell to Brazil in a double-digit loss in the semis.

The Olympic qualifiers stint saw Gilas shocking Latvia, the Philippines’ first FIBA win against a European team since 1960.

The United States remained on top of the men’s rankings after capturing the gold medal in the Paris Olympics.

Serbia rose to the second spot after a bronze medal finish in Paris, followed by Germany, France, and Canada rounding up the top five.

South Sudan is the only country that had a double-digit jump in the rankings, soaring from No. 34 to No. 23. The African nation earned its first Olympic win after beating Puerto Rico in the group stage.
