
Metro Manila, Philippines — The water at La Mesa Dam in Quezon City is nearing spilling level because of non-stop rains, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday, July 24.
The weather bureau said the dam level was at 79.41 meters as of 11:50 a.m. It will overflow at 80.15 meters.
PAGASA said water from La Mesa Dam, which is part of the Angat-Ipo-La Mesa water system, may affect low areas along the Tullahan river in Quezon City.
It advised residents of the following areas to be on alert for possible flooding:
Quezon City
+Fairview
+Forest Hills Subd.
+Quirino Highway
+Sta. Quiteria
+San Bartolome
Valenzuela
+Brgy. Ligon
+North Expressway
+La Huerta Subd.
Malabon
As of 11 a.m., typhoon Carina strengthened further heading into Taiwan. Signal number 2 is up in Batanes, while three areas are placed under Signal number 1.
Rainfall alerts have been raised in Metro Manila and surrounding areas, even in the Cordilleras, as Carina has intensified as well the southwest monsoon or habagat. – Lance Mejico
