Metro Manila, Philippines— President Bongbong Marcos joined world leaders in condemning the deadly shooting at a campaign rally of former United States President Donald Trump.

Authorities said Trump is safe after he was shot in the upper part of his right ear.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Marcos said, “It is with great relief that we receive the news that former President Donald Trump is fine and well after the attempt to assassinate him. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.”

He added that violence has no place in democratic societies.

“We condemn all forms of political violence. The voice of the people must always remain supreme,” said Marcos.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said political violence is unacceptable.

“I’m sickened by the shooting at former President Trump. It cannot be overstated — political violence is never acceptable. My thoughts are with former President Trump, those at the event, and all Americans,” Trudeau said in a social media post.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also condemned the attack.

“I am appalled by the shocking scenes at President Trump’s rally, and we send him and his family our best wishes. Political violence in any form has no place in our societies, and my thoughts are with all the victims of this attack,” he said.

The shooting at Trump’s rally comes less than two months after an assassination attempt on Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico.

In 2022, former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was assassinated during a campaign speech in Nara, Japan.
