Metro Manila, Philippines – A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck waters off Sultan Kudarat on Thursday, July 11, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Government experts said the tremor was recorded at 10:13 a.m. with the epicenter at 133 kilometers west of the municipality of Palimbang.
The earthquake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 722 kilometers.
Phivolcs ruled out a tsunami threat but cautioned against aftershocks. It did not report damage so far.
