
Valencia City, Bukidnon (CNN Philippines, January 21) — Davao de Oro was placed under a state of calamity due to severe flooding and landslides caused by heavy rains.
The local government declared the state of calamity on Saturday night following the passage of a Sangguniang Panlalawigan resolution.
“The passage of a declaration for a State of Calamity allows expedient response and recovery efforts through the utilization of its Quick Response Fund and promptly address the needs of affected families and individuals,” the announcement read.
According to provincial disaster authorities, 12 people died in recent rainfall-induced landslides in Monkayo and Maragusan. Meanwhile 51,140 households, or 182,653 individuals, were affected by heavy rains throughout the province.
Their initial assessment showed that agricultural damage is at ₱130 million, affecting over 3,700 farmers and fish farmers.
Davao del Norte also declared a state of calamity on Friday.
