
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 18) — Star power forward Carl Tamayo is set to return home and assess “new horizons” after reigning Japan B.League champions Ryukyu Golden Kings granted his request for release on Thursday.
According to VP Global Management, Tamayo’s talent agency, the decision is for the young player to “explore new horizons in the Japan B.League, allowing him to showcase his skills and make a more significant contribution to another team.”We believe that finding a team where Carl can maximize his potential and make a substantial impact is in his best interest,” said the management team in a statement.The Golden Kings granted the 22-year-old’s exit request as of Thursday morning (PH time).The big man pitched in 2.5 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.3 assist in 7.8 minutes of action across 16 games played during his title-winning rookie campaign with Ryukyu.In this halted season, Tamayo averaged 3.9 points and 2.5 rebounds in 12.5 minutes for 23 games.The shooter said he is thankful to the Okinawa-based squad that first gave him a shot at an international league.“I want to express my deepest gratitude to each and every fan who has been with me on this incredible journey. The former UP squad ace waived his remaining playing years donning the Maroon jersey in January last year to pursue a professional career in Japan.
