Over 2,200 people affected by Davao flooding

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 17) — Heavy rains from the shear line triggered flooding and landslides in several barangays in the Davao Region, affecting over 2,200 individuals, disaster management officials reported Wednesday.

In its situational report, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said 552 families or 2,212 residents of Davao de Oro, Davao Occidental, and Davao Oriental were affected.

The NDRRMC also said 446 families, or 1,800 individuals, were evacuated due to the bad weather.

Nine areas in Davao de Oro and two areas in Davao del Norte remain flooded, and three rain-induced landslides in Davao de Oro were reported, the agency added.

Family food packs and rice amounting to ₱339,625 were provided to Davao de Oro and Davao Oriental.

The state weather bureau said the shear line will persist over Mindanao on Wednesday, which will bring heavy rains that could cause flash floods and landslides.
