
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 17) — A magnitude 5.7 aftershock struck Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur on Wednesday evening, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs said it was the aftershock of the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that hit offshore Surigao del Sur on Dec. 2, 2023.
The latest tremor of tectonic origin hit 28 kilometers northeast of Hinatuan at 8:32 p.m. It had a depth of 23 km.
State seismologist reported the following intensities:
Intensity V – Hinatuan and City of Bislig, Surigao del Sur
Intensity IV – Tagbina, Surigao del Sur; City of Butuan, Agusan del Norte
Intensity III – Cagwait and City of Tandag, Surigao del Sur; Pantukan, Maco, and Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; Magsaysay and City of Gingoog, Misamis Oriental
Intensity II – City of Davao; City of Cagayan de Oro; Libona, San Fernando and Talakag, Bukidnon; Balingasag, Misamis Oriental
Intensity I – Catarman, Guinsiliban, Mambajao, and Sagay, Camiguin
