Marcos to visit Germany in March

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. meets with German Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock at Malacañan Palace on Jan. 11, 2024.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 11) — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said he will fly to Germany in March, as he met in Manila on Thursday with the European country’s top diplomat.

Marcos told German Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock that he will visit on March 12, ahead of the 70th anniversary of the Philippines-Germany diplomatic relations in October.

The president shared that his office has been in contact with Germany over the past few months to arrange the trip, although it was only recently that the date has been finalized.

“We keep moving things, because things have been coming up,” he said during the meeting at Malacañan Palace. “But I think we’ve come down on the March 12 date, and so I can commit to that now.”

The last Philippine president to visit Germany was the late leader Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III who went there for an official trip in 2014.
