Taguig City launches LGU-run disability resource, development center

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 10)— The Taguig City government launched on Wednesday a local government unit (LGU)-operated Disability Resource and Development Center, the first in the country, which provides different free medical services for persons with disabilities and other services for its residences.

“The Center offers Speech Therapy as part of its comprehensive range of free services, alongside Adult and Pediatric Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and consultations with a rehabilitation medical doctor and developmental pediatrician,” the city government said in a statement.

“The Center also facilitates the application, processing, and issuance of PWD IDs and hosts free livelihood and developmental training programs,” it added.

In a statement, the LGU said the six-storey facility features specialized rooms for therapy, consultation, a multi-sensory integration, training, and conferences. It also has a pantry and an E-library accessible to all its residents.

The center will also be the new home of the Persons with Disability Affairs Office and the Philippine Registry for Persons with Disability Services.

“Dalangin ko po na ang pasilidad na ito ay magdulot ng ginhawa at kagalingan sa mga taong makikinabang,” Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano said.
