
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 6) — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Saturday confirmed the safety of six Filipino crew members on board the MV Nila Norfolk after an attempted hijacking in the North Arabia Sea.
“They are safe and sound,” DMW OIC Hans Cacdac told CNN Philippines after the Indian Embassy announced the well-being of most of the ship’s crew.
According to the Indian Embassy, the Indian Navy thwarted the attack on Jan. 5 and evacuated 21 crew members composed of six Filipinos and 15 Indians.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Indian Navy said the attempt was by some pirates who “probably abandoned” the ship after a forceful warning and interception of an Indian Naval warship.
“#INSChennai is in the vicinity of MV and rendering support to restore the power generation & propulsion, and commence her voyage to next port of call,” the navy wrote.
