Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 2) A Filipino fisherman was rescued by a Chinese boat after being adrift at sea for eight days, the Armed Forces of the Philippines Western Command (AFP Wescom) said.
Rosalon Cayon, 31, went fishing with another fisherman in two separate boats on Dec. 20.
But Cayon’s boat capsized about 40 nautical miles off the coast of Buliluyan in mainland Palawan on Dec. 23.
The AFP-Wescom said that Cayon clung to a piece of styrofoam to stay afloat for eight days.
“After eight days at sea, Cayon was spotted and rescued by a sampan – a Chinese small fishing boat,\” it said in a statement issued Monday.
\”The Chinese fishermen brought him safely to the Rizal Reef Detachment where he is currently being treated and taken care of by Filipino troops stationed there,” it added.
