EMBO residents no longer eligible for Makati benefits

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 2) — Residents of the 10 barangays transferred from Makati City to Taguig City can no longer access health and other benefits previously given to them by their former local government.

Makati on Tuesday announced on Facebook that the yellow cards of residents of Enlisted Men’s Barrio (EMBO) are no longer valid starting Jan. 1 except for those working for the city government. Yellow cards are used to avail of Makati’s subsidized healthcare program

Health centers and lying-in clinics in affected barangays are also closing down since their licenses to operate have expired, it added.

Makati also said the BLU cards of senior citizens in the EMBO are also invalid starting Jan. 1, but they can still use their Makatizen card as a valid ID and debit card. BLU cards are used to access incentives like cash assistance, free movies, groceries, and medicines.

In June 2023, the Supreme Court rejected Makati’s second motion for reconsideration challenging the earlier ruling on the two-decade territorial dispute with Taguig on the jurisdiction over the Bonifacio Military Reservation, which includes the EMBO.

The EMBO is composed of 10 barangays, namely Cembo, Comembo, East Rembo, Pembo, Pitogo, Post Proper Northside, Post Proper Southside, South Cembo, West Rembo and Rizal.
