
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 31) — Devotees of the Black Nazarene flocked to Quiapo Church Saturday night until Sunday morning to join the “walk of thanksgiving,” ushering in the activities for Feast of the Black Nazarene 2024.
Chief of Quiapo Church DRRM Bro. Rumel Eijansatos reported that around 15,000 devotees participated in the two-hour procession that started at 11:45 p.m. on Saturday. A rosary communal prayer was conducted before the procession.
“The Andas of Hesus Poong Nazareno officially reached the patio at 0145H (1:45 a.m. on Sunday),” he added.
The Quiapo Church said there were eight minor medical cases.
The Hijos del Nazareno earlier released the schedule of activities for Feast of the Black Nazarene 2024, which will culminate in the Traslacion on January 9:
Here is the list of activities for Jan. 1-9, 2024.
• Barangay Visitation (Quiapo community) – Jan. 1 and 6
•Replica blessing and procession – Jan. 3 and 4, 1:30 p.m.
•Jan 5, 2024: First Friday of the year 2024, masses will be from 4 a.m. to 9 p.m.
•Jan 6, 2024: Mass for volunteers at 6 p.m., start of pahalik at 7 p.m.
•January 8: Continuation of pahalik, Visperas masses — 5 a.m. to noon, Fiesta masses 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., Panalangin sa Takipmsilim at 5:30 p.m., vigil and program at 6 p.m.
•January 9: Feast of Black Nazarene, Misa Mayor at midnight, vigil
“Iyong dati nating ginagawa, ganoon pa rin. Pero dapat ‘yung dati nating pag-iingat, pagsunod, pakikiisa ay ganu’n pa rin. Kahit na medyo excited tayong lahat, ‘wag natin kalilimutan ‘yung tatlong ‘yon – gawin pa rin nating banal, maayos, at ligtas,” Rev. Fr. Hans Magdurulang said on Sunday.
[Translation: We should just do what we have been doing for the past years. But of course, we have to be more careful and follow the rules even if we’re all excited. Let’s not forget three things — to keep the activities holy, proper and safe.]
