
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 24) — One died after a fire razed a residential area in the capital of Southern Leyte province on Saturday afternoon.
Police said a 59-year-old died in the blaze that burned down his home and 21 other houses in Barangay Tagnipa, Maasin City.
Authorities are still determining the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, at least 24 families will spend Christmas at the Maasin City Central School, which will serve as their evacuation center.
Both the provincial and city government have instructed social service offices to provide the needs of evacuees.
