De Lima named as Liberal Party spox

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 5) — Former Senator Leila de Lima has been designated as spokesperson of the Liberal Party of the Philippines (LP).

Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman, president of LP, announced this in a statement on Tuesday.

In a separate statement, de Lima said she was “honored and grateful” for the appointment.

“Sama-sama po nating palakasin ang ating boses at paninindigan para sa ating kolektibong adhikain para sa LP at sa minamahal nating bansa, kung saan sa taumbayan nagmumula ang tunay na kapangyarihan. Tuloy ang laban!” she said.

[Translation: Together, let’s strengthen our voice and stand for our collective aspiration for LP and our beloved country, where real power comes from the people. The fight continues!]

According to Lagman, de Lima is also the party’s vice president for policy, platform, and advocacy.

This development came following the release of de Lima from the Philippine National Police custodial facility after posting bail for her remaining drug case.

De Lima has been known as a staunch critic of former President Rodrigo Duterte and his controversial war on drugs.
