4 persons of interest in Cebu robbery now in custody

Cebu City (CNN Philippines, November 27) — Four individuals considered persons of interest in the weekend robbery of a pawnshop in Cebu are now in custody after a getaway vehicle used in the crime was intercepted, the city’s police said on Monday.

Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) director Ireneo Dalogdog said two more persons of interest were taken into custody after a red Honda City they were riding in was stopped on Monday morning during a dragnet operation in Barangay Lamacan in Sibonga.

The car is suspected to be one of the getaway vehicles of the robbers. A perpetrator was captured on CCTV footage as transferring from a motorcycle to the red car, which did not have a plate number and had “for registration” signage.

The intercepted car yielded firearms, the details of which are still being collated by the CCPO.

Two others persons of interest were collared by the Mandaue City police last Sunday, bringing the number of those in custody to four. Police did not disclose their identities or background.

Dalogdog said that based on the footage, the asailants looked like professionals and well-trained in handling firearms.

There are no reports yet on the value of the stolen jewelry, but police earlier estimated their worth to be between ₱4 to ₱5 million.

The police said they were also checking the background of the security guards of the pawnshop and other nearby areas to determine possible involvement in the robbery.

Four armed men who introduced themselves as National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents robbed the Oro Sugbo Pawnshop and Jewelry Store in Colon street on Saturday.
