Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 20) – Authorities in Metro Manila have deployed rescue vehicles to serve thousands of commuters on Monday morning as the three-day transport strike began.
In a statement, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said the 37 rescue vehicles are from government offices and private bus companies.
Traffic enforcers were also ordered to keep an eye on spikes or nails that may be scattered by protesters on roads, MMDA said.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board earlier said it would deploy at least 250 vehicles around 10 areas in Metro Manila.
The Quezon City Police District also said it will deploy 25 vehicles around Quezon City while the Taguig local government said it will provide free rides in 13 areas in their city.

Around 100,000 jeepney drivers and operators are expected to join the three-day transport strike to protest the franchise consolidation deadline on Dec. 31, a move under the government’s public utility vehicle (PUV) modernization program.
