Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 15) — The Miss Universe pageant on Wednesday revealed the competition format for its upcoming coronation night on Sunday, November 19 (Philippine time) in El Salvador.
“You asked, we answered. The official 72nd MISS UNIVERSE Competition selection rounds are here,” the pageant’s Facebook post read. “Who are your choices for top 3?”
Of the more than 80 candidates, 20 ladies will be selected based on their preliminary competition performance and the fan votes.
The top 20 candidates will walk the runway to flaunt their best figures in the swimsuit competition.
It will later be narrowed down to 10 candidates who will showcase poise and elegance during the evening gown round.
The competition gets tougher as only five women will enter the interview round.
From there, the top three candidates will answer the final question to determine the next Miss Universe.
In the previous edition, only 16 semifinalists were picked and competed in both swimsuit and evening gown rounds. It was later cut to top five and narrowed down to three.
Philippines’ bet Michelle Dee is aiming for the country’s fifth Miss Universe crown.
She topped the online voting for the Voice for Change category, which highlights the advocacies of candidates.
Filipino-American R’bonney Gabriel of the USA will crown her successor at the conclusion of the event.
