Inbound, outbound port passengers top 1M – PPA

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 2)— Sea travelers topped the million mark with ports mainly in Luzon and the Visayas teeming with people for the election and Undas holidays, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) said on Thursday.

“Nasa 6% po itinaas pong laki ng pasahero po na dumadagsa sa mga pantalan,” PPA spokesperson Eunice Samonte said in an interview with CNN Philippines’ Balitaan.

Samonte said PPA initially expected 1.4 million travelers but the number already reached one million on Oct. 28 to Nov. 1 alone, adding this could go higher in the coming days.

“Sa ngayon po ay nakikita po natin mas marami po ‘yung tao na dumarating sa pantalan pati na rin po ‘yung mga chance passengers,” she said.

PPA said sea ports with the most number of passengers were in Batangas, Mindoro, Bohol, and Negros Oriental.

Samonte reminded passengers to pack light and not bring heavy appliances for ease of travel.

She said PPA is all hands on deck monitoring security cameras 24/7, and deployed K-9 units in all ports.
