Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 27) — For the first time ever in the Philippines, e-bikes were among the classes featured in a motorbike racing event organized by the country’s largest and oldest two-wheel magazine.
For InsideRACING magazine (IR), the inclusion of e-bikes in the motorcycle racing community not only expands the range of vehicles that can participate in races, but also reflects the growing interest in electric mobility within the local industry.
“Underbone, scooter, pocket bike, and stand-up scooter classes are usually featured in the IR Club Races. This year, additional is the e-bike class as we start to embrace e-mobility,” IR said.
“E-mobility is the future of motorcycles and e-bike racing is now one of the categories being developed by IR,” the publication added.
The move marks a milestone in the evolution of the sport in the country as well as its shift toward more sustainable, efficient, and eco-friendly modes of transportation.
“The goal of the IR Club Races is to develop new racing stars and promote motorcycle racing to more riders and race fans,” the magazine said.

On Oct. 22, Russel Jay Jarlego of RFM E-Drive was crowned overall champion of the country’s first-ever e-bike race. Representing XTEER-Dadatech Racing Team, he also emerged as the overall champion of the MotoIR Underbone 155 Limited SP.
Jarlego used RFM Electric Drive’s PAR-X 3.0 to triumph over e-bikes from Lion-TWPO Philippines, EBP Unitedcay, Ecooter-AXOR Helmets-DE69, OZ Ebikes, and Buddharage.
By incorporating e-bikes into racing events, the e-bike champ said manufacturers, riders, and enthusiasts can gain a better understanding of which e-bike models are more durable and better suited for daily use.
“Natetest kung anong brand ng e-bike ang tatagal sa ilang laps ng race. Magkakaidea ka kung sino mas matibay pang daily use,” Jarlego said.

E-bikes have gained popularity in the Philippines over the years, offering a sustainable and cost-effective means of transportation and recreational riding in a country with increasing urban congestion and a growing awareness of environmental issues.
The Unified Sports and Racing Association for Motorcycles, Inc. sanctioned the annual race event and was backed by Shell Advance.
InsideRACING recently concluded its 2023 IR Club Races in Tarlac, with earlier rounds in Marikina and Bulacan.
