2 dead in Batangas tanker fire

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 22) — Authorities said two people died in the fire that hit a motor tanker off the coast of Batangas over the weekend.

In an update on the incident involving Motor Tanker Sea Horse, the Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog said another body was retrieved from the vessel on Sunday. This comes after they confirmed one person had died from the incident.

One of the two fatalities was identified as a caretaker of the Sea Horse, however authorities have withheld their names until their next of kin have been notified.

Meanwhile, John Michael Alamansa, one of the vessel’s ship keepers was rescued by a fishing boat on Sunday and was brought to hospital for medical aid and is helping authorities with their investigation.

An attending physician said Alamansa suffered from burns.

Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog said scene of the crime operatives went to the vessel for further investigation, adding a progress report would follow.
