SB19 vies for Grammy nomination with ‘Gento

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 13) — P-pop sensation SB19 is aiming for a shot in the Recording Academy’s Grammy Awards 2024.

Sony Music Philippines on Friday said the group’s hit single “Gento” is now an approved entry for the “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” category.

The music label also shared SB19’s “For Your Consideration” poster, a marketing campaign to get the attention of the Recording Academy’s voting members.

“Share until it gets to the voting members of the Recording Academy before Oct. 20,” said Sony Music Philippines in its social media post.

“Gento,” which is part of their second extended play “PAGTATAG!”, has become a popular dance craze not just with local celebrities but also with some K-pop artists as well.

The song landed at no. 8 in the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart in June.

Nominees will be announced on Nov. 10.

American acts with Filipino blood like Bruno Mars, H.E.R., and Olivia Rodrigo have already won a Grammy.

The P-pop group – composed of Pablo, Stell, Ken, Justin, and Josh – is currently preparing for the Asian leg of their “PAGTATAG! World Tour” in November.

Among their hits include “Mapa” and “Bazinga.”

SB 19 has made history for being the first Southeast Asian and Filipino act to be nominated in the Billboard Music Award’s Top Social Artist category in 2021.

It was also the first Filipino act to land in the Billboard’s Top Social 50 Artists in 2020.
