Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 11) —Police arrested on Wednesday a Malaysian national for attempted bribery for the release of his detained compatriot over a no smoking offense in Taguig City.
Authorities identified the foreigner as alias Jack Boo, 33, and the bribe was ₱30,000 for his friend who exhibited disruptive behavior.
“The suspect appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and was smoking in the parking area, which was designated as a no-smoking zone,” the Southern Police District (SPD) said in a statement.
“The officers approached the suspect and politely informed him about the no-smoking policy. Instead of complying, the suspect insulted the officers by attempting to bribe them to let him continue smoking,” it added.
The SPD said its members arrested Chong for cursing and disruptive behavior.
“These commendable officers resisted attempts of bribery and steadfastly enforced the rightful laws, embodying the highest standards of professionalism,” SPD chief PBGen Roderick Mariano said.
