Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 7) — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. congratulated Gilas Pilipinas after their stunning gold medal win against Jordan in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
“I know every Filipino is proud to be called one today. Congratulations, Gilas Pilipinas, on this incredible feat!” the chief executive said.
“Your hard work continues to elevate Filipino athleticism and sportsmanship to the global arena,” he added.
Gilas won the historic gold after taking down Jordan, 70-60, Friday at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium.
This is the first men’s basketball gold medal for the Philippines in the continental meet since 1962, and fifth overall.
