Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 21) — The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) on Thursday said it has approved the release of ₱12.259 billion to provide housing assistance to calamity victims and fund the construction of residential buildings for informal settlers.
Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said she has signed the release of the notice of cash allocation to the National Housing Authority, with ₱12.059 billion intended for aid to calamity victims.
The remaining ₱200 million, meanwhile, will be used for the establishment of four units of five-story low-residential buildings for informal settler families in Western Visayas.
“Housing remains a priority for President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. as he strongly believes in the necessity of providing decent homes for Filipinos, particularly those adversely affected by calamities,” Pangandaman noted in a statement.
The Marcos administration earlier vowed to provide 6 million low-cost housing units for Filipinos who are homeless or minimum wage earners. It aims to build one million units yearly until 2028 to solve the country’s 6.5 million housing backlog.
