Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 1) — The world’s no. 2 pole vaulter EJ Obiena found himself in unfamiliar territory after finishing last in the Zurich leg of the 2023 Wanda Diamond League on Friday.
Obiena fell to the last spot among the ten competitors after only clearing the 5.60 meters.
The Filipino pole vault sensation failed in his two attempts at the 5.75 m and one at the 5.85 m.
World’s no. 1 Armand Duplantis of Sweden bagged the gold after clearing the 6.0 m. Meanwhile, USA’s Sam Kendrick and KC Lightfoot won silver and bronze, respectively.
Obiena’s 10th place finish comes after bagging the silver medal in the 2023 World Athletics Championship in Budapest on Aug. 26, where he cleared the 6.0 m.
