Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 20) — Breakdancers across the nation are set to compete for spots in the 2024 Paris Olympics training pool at the Philippine Dancesport Federation (PDSF) Breaking National Ranking event this Sunday.
The best homegrown Filipino breakdancers will strut their stuff before a panel of judges for a chance to join the national team bound for Paris next year.
The dance tourney initially formed regional qualifiers in four clusters: Northern Luzon, National Capital Region/Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Winners in the qualifiers will then step up to the national ranking to claim a national team training pool position.
Breaking or elite breakdancing will make its Olympics debut in Paris 2024 which will be held from July 26 to Aug. 11.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier expressed hope that Filipino athletes will make history in the Paris Olympics by excelling in the sport.
“Kayang kaya natin, ang gagaling nating mga Pilipino basta sa sayawan. Sigurado naman akong marami tayong maaaring pambato natin diyan,” the president said.
[Translation: We can do it because Filipinos excel in dancing. I’m sure we can send many competitive dancers.]
The national ranking event will be held at Whitespace Manila, Makati City at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 20.
