
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 19) — Members of the Philippine entertainment industry are mourning the death of award-winning veteran actress Angie Ferro. She was 86.
The “Lola Igna” star passed away on Thursday, her family and friends in the industry confirmed. Details on her death and wake have yet to be announced as of posting.
Through a social media post, award-giving body Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) expressed grief over her passing.
Ferro bagged the 1979 FAMAS Best Supporting Actress trophy for the 1978 movie “Pagputi ng Uwak… Pag-itim ng Tagak.” topbilled by Vilma Santos and Bembol Roco.
She won Best Actress at the 2019 Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino for her performance in “Lola Igna,” and was nominated at Gawad Urian for the same movie.
The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) also mourned Ferro’s passing, extending its deepest sympathies to the family.
Screenwriter Suzette Doctolero and Noel Miralles, the actor known as Ferro’s protégé, also took to social media their personal tributes to the renowned actress.
“Paalam aming Maestra (Farewell, our teacher.),” Miralles wrote.
ABS-CBN actor Yves Flores also shared his sadnessf over his “Lola Igna” co-actress’ death, humbly asking for guidance from Ferro.
“Naway lagi nyo po akong gabayan at bigyan ng lakas ng loob para patuloy umarte (May you always guide me and give me the courage to continue acting), ” Flores said.
Ferro’s last film project was the suspense thriller “Ang Mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan,” which also saw her play the titular Mama Susan with Joshua Garcia as her onscreen grandson.
She was unable to attend the film’s premiere in May 2023, citing health issues.
Ferro appeared in a number of memorable projects including “Darna At Ding,” “Atsay,” “Magdusa Ka,” “Patayin Sa Sindak si Barbara,” and “Etiquette for Mistresses,” to name a few.
She was also part of the highly acclaimed GMA historical drama series “Amaya,” with Maria Rivera in the title role.
