PNP forms security task force for FIBA Basketball World Cup

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 15) — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has officially formed a dedicated Security Task Force (STF) to ensure the safety of the players, fans, staff, and the venues of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Authorities expect thousands of local and international visitors to gather for the global showpiece.

The PNP said it is committed to providing a secure environment throughout the duration of the event.

“We are fully committed to ensuring the safety and security of all participants, spectators, and venues during the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. Our Security Task Force is well-prepared and equipped to handle any challenges that may arise” PNP chief Benjamin Acorda Jr said in a statement.

The Philippines is part of Group A alongside Italy, Dominican Republic, and Angola. Gilas will play its first game at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan and the rest of the matches will take place at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Group B teams Serbia, South Sudan, China, and Puerto Rico will also play their games at the Big Dome.

Meanwhile, Group C and D squads United States, Greece, Jordan, New Zealand, Lithuania, Montenegro, Mexico, and Egypt will see action at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The FIBA World Cup will run from Aug. 25 to Sept. 10.
