LTFRB: Petition for ₱1 rush hour fare hike ‘set aside,’ not rejected

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 15) —The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) clarified on Tuesday that it has not rejected the petition filed by some transport groups for a ₱1 rush hour fare hike.

In a statement, the agency said it has only set the petition aside to prioritize the more recent appeal for a ₱2 regular fare increase for public utility vehicles.

“The LTFRB Board will still, however, resolve the first petition while prioritizing the most recent one filed due to oil price hike,” the LTFRB wrote.

Another round of oil price hikes took effect on Tuesday, marking the sixth consecutive week of increases since July 17.

The Liga ng Transportasyon at Operators sa Pilipinas said the board is set to hear the ₱2 fare hike petition on Wednesday.

Transport groups also earlier proposed a surge charge of ₱1 on top of base fares during rush hours, particularly between 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., to help cushion the impact of higher fuel costs.
