Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 14) — No weather disturbance that may affect the country is seen in the next few days, but gloomy weather is still expected in some areas due to the southwest monsoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
“Sa ngayon wala naman tayong mino-monitor na bagyo o low pressure area sa loob o labas ng Philippine Area of Responsibility kaya maliit pa yung tsansang magkabagyo tayo at least in the next 2-3 days,” PAGASA weather forecaster Obet Badrina said in a Monday briefing.
[Translation: For now, we are not monitoring any tropical cyclone or low pressure area in and out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility that is why there is a small chance that a tropical cyclone will develop in at least in the next 2-3 days.]
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon, or habagat, is affecting mostly the southern portion of the country.
Badrina said that on Monday, this will bring cloudy skies and scattered rain showers over Palawan, the Bicol Region, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Most areas in Luzon will experience hot weather, with localized rain showers and thunderstorms during the evening, he noted.
The monsoon rains have caused flooding and erosion in affected areas like Calbayog City, Samar. Local authorities on Sunday said the overflowing of rivers brought severe flooding in low-lying barangays such as Danao, Acedillo, and Bontay.
