Bulacan placed under state of calamity due to ‘Egay’ floods

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 1) — The entire province of Bulacan is now under a state of calamity after most of its municipalities experienced heavy flooding brought by Super Typhoon Egay’s rains, local officials announced Tuesday.

According to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), over 228,000 families from 17 barangays affected by the storm in Bulacan.

Local officials also said 16 towns and three cities were affected by heavy floods. The PDRRMC also logged two deaths during Egay’s onslaught.

Resolution 579, signed by Bulacan Gov. Daniel Fernando, also cited that agricultural and infrastructural damage due to heavy flooding in the province are pegged at ₱93,023,705 and ₱500,000,000, respectively.

Other areas under state of calamity

The local government of Pampanga also declared a province-wide state of calamity on Monday.

Pampanga Gov. Dennis Pineda said the province had been battered by heavy rainfall since July 21 due to Egay, affecting over 512,000 individuals. He added that 232 barangays across 15 municipalities were flooded.

Cagayan, which was placed under Signal No. 4 during Egay’s onslaught, also declared a state of calamity due to damage from the super typhoon.

Speaking to CNN Philippines’ The Final Word, Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba said 83 homes were damaged while more than 1,500 others were partially damaged.

A state of calamity was also declared in the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Bataan, Cavite, Abra, Mountain Province, and Apayao.
