Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 25) — Migrant Workers Secretary Susan Ople on Tuesday said she will take a two-week leave of absence from work following the deaths of her two elder brothers.
Former Hagonoy Mayor Felix “Toti” Ople and former journalist Blas Ople Jr. both died from lung cancer earlier this month.
Felix succumbed to the disease on July 13 at 65 years old, while Blas died at 71 on July 18.
“Our family lost two good men within a span of five days,” Secretary Ople said in a statement. “They are now in a much better place, free from pain and reunited with our beloved parents and brother, Raul.”
The Cabinet official also thanked President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for approving her request for a wellness break and for conveying his condolences.
