Rachelle Ann Go on how she got her role in ‘Hamilton’: a nerve-racking audition

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 20) — Filipino actress and singer Rachelle Ann Go said she went through “a nerve-racking audition” for the role of Eliza Hamilton in the hit musical “Hamilton”, which she will reprise during the show’s Manila staging in September.

Speaking to CNN Philippines on Thursday, Go said she even lost her voice on audition day.

“Prayers are really powerful…for some reason my voice just came out and they offered me the role the next day,” she added.

The theater actress said she also auditioned for the role of Peggy Schuyler.

Go first played Eliza, the wife of United States’ founding father Alexander Hamilton, in the West End production of the musical from 2017 to 2019.

Prior to this, she was also part of other critically acclaimed musicals, namely Miss Saigon and Les Misérables.

Go said that through these productions, she was able to meet other Filipinos performing on the international stage.

The Manila production of “Hamilton” will run for two months starting September. It will also mark the Asian premiere of the musical.

Go said she is excited to return to the Philippines and be able to perform in front of Filipinos.

On what’s next for her, Go said she wants to enjoy motherhood for now.

“Being a mom of two, it’s a lot of work, especially living in a country where I don’t have family members out here… I think just enjoy the family this season. I love being a mom, it’s so fulfilling,” she said.
