
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) – Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner will be the next chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Malacañang announced Wednesday.
Brawner will replace Gen. Andres Centino, who was re-appointed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to the post early this year.
The Palace added that Centino will be named presidential adviser on the West Philippine Sea.
Brawner has been army commanding general since 2021. He is from the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1989 and has served for 34 years.
Malacañang listed his previous designations, namely:
– 6th Special Forces Company commander
– 2nd Special Forces Battalion commander
– Special Forces Regiment (airborne) operations officer
– 6th Infantry “Kampilan” Division chief of staff
– Army Public Affairs chief
– Armed Forces spokesperson
– Civil-Military Operations Regiment commander
– 103rd Infantry Brigade commander during the Marawi siege in 2017
In a message to CNN Philippines, AFP spokesperson Col. Medel Aguilar said the agency’s Public Affairs Office will announce the schedule of appointment soon.
