5 Manila cops sacked for robbery-extortion

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 14) — The Manila Police District (MPD) has formed a special investigation team for the arrest of five of its members who allegedly extorted ₱40,000 from the owner of a computer shop in Sampaloc, Manila.

The Sampaloc Police Station identified them as staff sergeants Ryan Tagle Paculan and Jan Erwin Santiago Isaac, Cpl. Jonmark Gonzales Dabucol, and patrolmen Jeremiah Sesma Pascual and Jhon Lester Reyes Pagar.

They are all members of the MPD Intelligence Operation Unit.

According to Herminigildo Dela Cruz, the computer shop owner, the policemen introduced themselves as officers conducting operations against illegal online gambling.

They also reportedly demanded ₱4,000 every week as “protection money,” as well as stole ₱3,500 and a hard disk drive containing CCTV footage of the computer shop.

A certain Monay Martinez was also tagged as an accomplice of the policemen.

Manila Police District chief PBGen. Andre Dizon said the policemen have been relieved from their unit while the filing of administrative and criminal cases are ongoing.
