Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 26) — A total of 19,124 families have been affected by flooding due to heavy rains in Soccsksargen, with hundreds of locals still in evacuation centers, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Monday.
In a statement, the department said it has provided over ₱3.2 million worth of aid to 92,319 affected residents of Kabacan and Pikit towns of Cotabato, and in Glan town in Sarangani.
The agency reported some 251 families or 612 people remained in an evacuation center in Glan, adding its regional field office is continuously validating and monitoring the number of both affected and evacuated families.
Floods experienced in these areas were caused by heavy rains due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone, a weather system where trade winds from north and south hemispheres come together, authorities said.
The DSWD said locals have been experiencing the effects of the weather disturbance since June 21.
