LPA east of Visayas enters PAR

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 25) — The low pressure area east of the Visayas entered the country’s weather monitoring area on Sunday morning, but it has a “low chance” of developing into a storm, the state weather bureau said.

In its 4 p.m. weather forecast on Sunday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA was last spotted 585 kilometers east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar.

“Wala itong direct effect sa anumang bahagi ng ating bansa at posibleng itong pumasok sa loob ng area of responsibility ngayong araw,” PAGASA weather forecaster Grace Castañeda said in an earlier weather briefing.

“But within two to three days, nakikita natin na mababa ang tiyansa nito maging bagyo ngunit continuous monitoring pa rin tayo at hindi natin inaalis yong possibility na ito ay ma-develop,” she added.

But within two to three days, we see that it has a low chance of turning into a storm. We will conduct continuous monitoring and we are not ruling out the possibility of its development.]

The LPA is embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) where trade winds from the north and south hemispheres come together.

The ITCZ is affecting southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Throughout Sunday, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected over Quezon, Mimaropa, Bicol region, Visayas, Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte, PAGASA said.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, the state weather bureau added.

Castañeda also warned of possible flash floods or landslides during heavy rains or severe thunderstorms.

While it has a low chance of intensifying into a storm, PAGASA weather forecaster Rhea Torres said the LPA could bring rains over Eastern Visayas and the eastern section of Southern Luzon including the Bicol region and Quezon province over the next few days.
