Ateneo named as top university in PH 2023 Asia Rankings

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 23) — Ateneo de Manila was listed as the top university in the Philippines at 84th place in the 2023 Asia University Rankings produced by Times Higher Education.

Ateneo was the only university in the country that made it to the top 100 in the ranking that includes 669 universities across 31 nations..

China’s Tsinghua University and Peking University took the first and second positions in the ranking for the fourth year in a row.

Performance indicators of the ranking include: teaching, research, citations, industry income, and international outlook. Ateneo had an overall score of 47.4.

“We are honored to enter Times Higher Education’s Asia rankings for the first time, especially being ranked in the top 100,” Roberto Yap, president of Ateneo, said in a statement.

“This feat is the product of years of hard work of the entire community from faculty and researchers, to staff, professionals, and administrators, to our students,” he added.

In the 2023 World Rankings previously released by the British magazine, Ateneo ranked 351-400, still the top among Philippine universities included. It was followed by University of the Philippines (UP) at 801-1000 and De La Salle University (DLSU) at 1201-1500.

The Jesuit university was also the highest-placed among Philippine universities in this year’s Impact Rankings at 201-300. The ranking measured the commitment of participating universities in delivering sustainable development goals.

Other PH schools

UP, meanwhile, was ranked 201-600 with an overall score of 35.5-38.1. It was previously the top Philippine university at 129th in the Asia University Rankings in 2022.

DLSU placed third among Philippine universities at 201-250, while Mapua University ranked fourth in the country at 601+.
