Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 23) — At least two persons were reported dead and seven others still missing after a fishing boat carrying 23 people sank off Baganga, Davao Oriental on Thursday, authorities said.
A total of 14 crew members were rescued, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said in an update on Friday morning.
The fishing boat Genesis 2 sank during the wee hours of Thursday due to “a sudden change in sea condition,” the PCG said, quoting the rescued crew.
An earlier statement from the PCG stated that the vessel was found partially submerged, but it clarified that Genesis 2 sank.
The PCG said it deployed BRP Tubbataha (MRRV-4401) to respond to the maritime incident.
