Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 13) — Students of Mauraro Elementary School in Guinobatan, Albay will again resort to blended learning, as hundreds of evacuees are set to occupy their classrooms due to threats from Mayon Volcano.

“Our contingency is blended learning. Face-to-face classes in the morning and modules in the afternoon. But our problem now is that we will be shifting to another contingency if all the classrooms will be used for evacuation,” Giovanni Palacio, the school principal, told CNN Philippines.

Palacio said at least 15 classrooms will shelter evacuees from the six-kilometer danger zone. He added that the evacuation has affected 60% of their learners, who will have to shift from face-to-face classes to blended learning.

Palacio said the evacuation will result in disruption of learning since students are still adjusting to face-to-face classes.

“We cannot rely on the modules because we are not sure kung yung mga parents may capabilities na magturo sa bata,” he added.

Close to 3,000 individuals, or over 800 families, have been evacuated in Guinobatan.

Local government units have appealed to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to include residents near Mayon as beneficiaries of the government’s housing projects.
