Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 5) – The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) on Monday launched a commemorative coin set ahead of Independence Day on June 12.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and BSP Gov. Felipe Medalla led the event.
The BSP said the 100-Piso shows the eight provinces that rallied for independence from Spanish colonizers, while the 20-Piso depicts the Barasoain Church, where the country’s first republic was established.
The 5-Piso shows the bravery of Filipinos in the Philippine-American War, it added.
The BSP said the Independence Day coin set used the latest digital printing technology.
It was also the country’s first colored and non-circulation commemorative coins.
The availability of the coin set for sale will be announced on the social media accounts of the BSP.
