Young Azkals bow out of SEA Games campaign

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 11) — The Philippine Azkals Under-22 football team wrapped up their 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games campaign winless after bowing to semis-bound Myanmar, 1-0, on Wednesday.

Myanmar’s Thet Hein Soe scored at the 54th minute off a penalty kick and logged the game’s lone goal while the Filipino booters struggled to push for a much-needed equalizer.

The added five minutes to the match was not enough for the Azkals to score in their attempts against Myanmar’s tough defense.

The Philippine team dropped to fifth place in Group A with three recorded losses and a lone point from a draw.

Myanmar joins Indonesia in the medal round with 9 and 12 points, respectively.
