
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 11) — The Philippine women’s volleyball team advanced to the semifinals after defeating Singapore in straight sets at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games on Thursday at the Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh.
The Filipino volleybelles dominated Singapore, 25-17, 25-14, 25-13, with team captain Alyssa Valdez providing the clinching spike in the last few plays of the game.
It was Valdez’s first game and the team’s second win in the tournament.
The Filipina spikers are one win away from having the country’s first podium finish since 2005.

The Philippines is going up against Thailand in the knockout semifinal match on Saturday, May 13.
