Local boxer dies after falling into coma

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 11) — Bantamweight boxer Kenneth Egano passed away on Wednesday, a few days after falling into a coma following a match in Cavite.

The 22-year-old Saranggani native collapsed while waiting for the results of his eight-round fight against Jason Facularin. He was declared the winner of the match.

Egano was stretched out of the ring and brought to the Imus Doctors Hospital where he was diagnosed with brain hemorrhage.

His death was confirmed by boxing organizer Blow by Blow via a social media post.

“The whole Blow by Blow family is deeply saddened by the news that one of our beloved fighters, Kenneth Egano, has joined our creator this afternoon (Wednesday). Kenneth was one of Blow by Blow’s best young pugilists and had a potential to be a future champion,” the post read.

Egano had a pro record of 7-1.

World boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, owner of Blow by Blow, promised to shoulder Egano’s medical expenses.
