Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 3) — The Philippines and the United States would form a bilateral labor working group that would keep an eye on the implementation of labor rights, according to a White House fact sheet.

This plan is pursuant to the US-Philippines Trade and Investment Framework Agreement, the White House said.

The labor working group is intended to become a platform where both nations “can collaborate to accelerate the implementation of internationally recognized labor rights.”

The platform is also seen to advance exchanges between government officials and labor unions, which would make sure “that workers’ voices will shape the way ahead.”

The White House said both countries are committed to “ensuring workers can organize freely and safely.”
